The Five Reasons Why Your Hot Water System May Not Be Working As It Should

  • Faulty thermostat: if your hot water system is not heating up at all it could be due to a faulty thermostat. The thermostat regulates the temperature of the water in your electric hot water system so if this is not working properly the water may not heat up at all or may not heat up to the desired temperature. It’s important to have a qualified plumber inspect and replace the thermostat if necessary.
  • Undersized water heater: if you notice that you are constantly running out of hot water easily the size of your electric tank may not be large enough for the property and the amount of people living at the property if your hot water tank is being emptied regularly it will take a large amount of time for the water to reheat itself.
  • Faulty element: This is similar to a faulty thermostat. If your hot water system is unable to heat up water it might be due to a faulty heating element. The heating element is responsible for heating the water in your electric hot water system if either your thermostat or element has become faulty it is recommended that you replace both at the same time to prevent any further heating issues of your unit.
  • Tempering valves: The tempering valve is responsible for mixing hot and cold water. If the tempering valve is not functioning correctly it can cause issues with the temperature of the water and potentially lead to scalding or being completely ice cold. We can inspect and replace the tempering valve to ensure that it meets the current regulations.
  • Loss of power: if your electric hot water system it’s not receiving enough power it may not be able to heat up water through the heating element. This can be caused by a tripped circuit breaker or a faulty power supply. It is important to have a licensed plumber inspect it first to make sure that there are no leaks on or around the hot water unit that can cause the circuit breaker to trip at the switchboard.
